Non-Motorized Trails

hiking in north hastings

Funding for this project was provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and funding by the NHEDC with in-kind contributions from community organizations.

An Ontario Trillium Foundation grant was secured January 2017 to develop a North Hastings Non-motorized Trail Master Plan by March 2018. A key feature of this grant is for community stakeholders to collaboratively work together to develop this Master Plan. A North Hastings Non-motorized Trails Committee was created as a sub committee of the NHEDC to provide oversight of this project. This initial project was completed in August 2018.

While implementing this project, community partnerships were strengthened, new partnerships developed and collective actions implemented. These are some of the achievements, outcomes and links to documents produced during the project.

Our biggest achievement was the development of the North Hastings Non-Motorized Trails Master Plan.

A formal evaluation was conducted to evaluate these efforts. The results are shared below.

NOTE this project continues! Given the achievements and how more was accomplished through collective action, the North Hastings Non-motorized Trails Committee will continue their work to develop physical activity opportunities for residents and visitors and to guide the creation of a connected system of trails for the North Hastings region.

We have developed a plan that includes a next steps document, -  a Next Steps, a Work Base Structure and a project milestone gantt chart. This is our going forward strategy and project plan for further funding and action for the next 18 months. The following documents have been produced thus far with the anticipation of more to be released in the future.

Yes! Going forward we will be asking for more direct participation, contribution and responsibility from various users and user groups, clubs and businesses for inclusion. Watch for more details here or in your mail box in the future.

This project and all the documentation was produced through the generous financial support of The Ontario Trillium Foundation.
