Harvest Hastings

Harvest Hastings promotes sustainable agriculture, our creative agricultural community and local food and other products produced in Hastings County, through celebration, education, marketing, networking initiatives, and programs that build understanding and support from consumers.

North Hastings Fish Hatchery

This community-driven project has developed our own North Hasting’s strain of fish, the Jewel Trout.  Working in cooperation with Fleming College and many local volunteers, this program will see the re-stocking of local lakes in the coming years, and in turn, the re-opening of some lakes for angling that have been closed in recent years.

Elk Restoration Project

The elk re-introduction project is part of a provincially mandated effort to re-establish this majestic ungulate to its historic natural range where it roamed freely as late as the 1800's. A combination of over-harvesting by the early settlers of Ontario and the loss of habitat resulted in the extinction of the Eastern Elk. Two herds from the genetically twinned Rocky Mountain Elk inhabiting western North America, have been relocated to Ontario as part of a massive cooperative effort to restore a species that will flourish in Ontario's natural ecosystem.
